2 Timothy 4:4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: 2 proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths. 5 As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Maybe I just haven’t read it in a while, but this seems to definitely describe the situation today.
We are commanded to continue to teach and carry out our ministry with patience. Though people may have closed minds and go other directions, we are to keep teaching. Even when we don’t see results, keep going.
Like The Lord we should be slow to anger and have patience with the people even though they do not hear. How often have we been the one that doesn’t listen? Hw often has God had patience with us? How much more so then should we have patience with people? Whether that is in ministry or just in every day situations.
We should remember the patience that The Lord consistently shows us and then do our best to show that to other people as we carry out our ministries in a world of people with itching ears.
